Our Reasons for Home Education:
Although he was achieving good results, he wasn't reaching his full potential because his love for learning had been destroyed & hence his grades were steadily declining.
Completely failed by the system, he hated school, was always tired & homework time was a major frustration for both of us. He was severely frustrated & quickly heading to become yet another ADHD statistic.

End Year Celebration & Awards
Now if there’s one thing that I’ve been missing from our boys’
homeschooling experience, it’s the public awards evenings. Most people won’t
admit the impact these moments of recognition have on one’s motivation to
achieve, but I know from own experience that they can fuel you for learning
& decided last year that this would be the one thing I’d add to our family
traditions. Next year we'll try include relatives from afar via webcam.
Since Jesse finished his Freshman Year in just 8 months &
passed with straight A's & 93% average, I figured we had a good reason to
celebrate his achievement. A little acknowledgement will go a long way towards
motivating him to keep up the good work during his Sophomore Year.
I got Jesse a shield for his high school results as well as a
trophy for his straight A’s. Misha will receive his shield next year when he
finishes Grade 6. Since he’s mainly unschooling at this stage but has shown
major improvement in reading, writing etc. I got him a trophy for overall
improvement as an encouragement to do his best from next year onwards when we
start bringing back curricula into his days.
I arranged a braai with some family & friends. After supper
Dadda handed out their trophies & certificates. My mom baked the beautiful
cake for Jesse & Misha will be rewarded with an End of School Year cake from
Grade 9 onwards. Although this is just a small gesture of appreciation of their
efforts, I know it will go a long way towards motivating them to continue doing
their best.
Well done boys & thank you for all your hard work. We love & appreciate you.
