Our Reasons for Home Education:

Lilypie Kids Birthday tickers

Although he was achieving good results, he wasn't reaching his full potential because his love for learning had been destroyed & hence his grades were steadily declining.

Lilypie Kids Birthday tickers

Completely failed by the system, he hated school, was always tired & homework time was a major frustration for both of us. He was severely frustrated & quickly heading to become yet another ADHD statistic.

Time for change…

Education is what survives when what has been learned has been forgotten. ~B. F. Skinner

Well the school holiday has come and gone and we’re already halfway through our first week of the new term.
I’ve decided to take a different approach to education from term onward. For starters we will be focusing more on education & less on “schooling” hence from here on out we’ll be home educating & no longer call it “schooling”. What’s the use of homeschooling anyway when it’s only school at home… it’s time to add more relaxation & fun to their education. We will be using what the boys enjoy to educate…
I have ordered Switched on Schoolhouse Language Arts as well as Teaching Textbooks Maths for Misha and am awaiting arrival of the material. If this works for him, he will be changing over to SOS core (Bible, Language Arts, Science & Health Quest) in the New Year with Teaching Textbooks for Maths. Misha was overly excited when I told him he could cut up his many Le-Amen worksheets to convert them into lapbooks. For Geography & History I’m looking at using Journey into Africa Unit Study for both of them next year & thereafter we’ll look at World History & World Geography.
Jesse’s getting SOS Science for the rest of the year to try it out. He still prefers the textbook maths so we’ll be changing him over to Teaching Textbooks Maths next year. I am also replacing his Social Science & Natural Science textbooks with learning through webquests. Of course I will continue surfing the net for educational games to add some fun & excitement, after all, that’s why we decided on home education in the first place.
I can hardly wait for their new material to arrive. If my assessment is correct, my planned changes will work for them and then I can expect a huge improvement in their enthusiasm towards learning. So here’s to the fun filled new term… I trust you will all have a great one.
